Introduction:

Kapil dev was born in the year 1956, 6th January. His father was Ram Lal Nikhanj, who was a prominent timber merchant by profession and his mother was Raj Kumari Ram Lal Nikhanj, who was born in Pakpattan in the town of the Sufi saint Baba Farid. They used to live in Shah Yakka, which is presently in Okara district of Pakisthan. Kapil Dev is having four sisters and two brothers. His father used to spend his early life in Fazilka but after partition he moved to the capital city of Chandigarh along with his entire family. Kapil Dev did his schooling from D.A.V school and later he joined Desh Prem Azad in the year 1971.


Married Life:

Kapil Dev got married to Romi Bhatia in the year 1980 and they had a daughter, Amiya Dev on 16 January 1996. In the year 1994 Kapil Dev was fascinated to take up golf. At that time he was the only Asian founding member of Laureus Foundation in 2000. He presented his three autobiographical works, among them “By god’s decree” came out in the year 1985 and “Cricket my style” came out in the year 1987. Autobiography titled straight from the heart was released recently in the year 2004. Kapil Dev was found to be seen in some of the famous movies like Dillagi, Iqbal, Chiankhuliki main Khuli and mujhseShadiKarogi.


 Kapil Dev was very much interested in participation in events other than cricket also. Recently, Bollywood director Kabir Khan is found to be interested in making biopic on the event of India’s first world cup victory at Lords. As the man behind this victory was none other than Kapil Dev, so his role will be depicted in the biopic by Ranveer Singh.


Career in Cricket:

Kapil Dev is recognized as a hard hitting middle order batsman and a fast bowler. As a player in cricket he is a complete package of skills and hard work. He is also regarded as one of the finest captains in the history of Indian cricket as well as in the entire world. He started his journey with an impressive debut for Haryana in the year 1975 against Punjab, the season completed by him with 121 wickets in 30 matches, but his team lost against Bombay during the quarter finals. Due to recognizable performance by Kapil Dev, he was welcomed to the national platform, during that period he got Deodhar Trophy and Wills Trophy for the first time. 


The journey of test matches started by him against Pakastan team in the year 1978 16th October. He earned the name of Indian cricketer of the century in 2002 by Wisdon. Under his captaincy during the time interval of 1982 to 1983, Indian cricket team won the 1983 Cricket world cup for the first time in Indian History. During the time interval of October 1999 to August 2000 he served Indian cricket team as a coach. He was having a world record for the greatest number of wickets taken in test matches during his time of playing. During that period he was holding the record of India’s wicket taker in both test matches and as well as in ODIs. He was considered to be the first player in the history to take 200 ODI wickets. 


He is having a record of 5000 runs in tests. All these achievements were only possible for someone like Kapil Dev only, who is a complete package of skills. He took retirement in the year 1994 from his cricket career but his name will be present throughout the world for life long. 


After the World Cup session he took part in test series but could not win the match in spite of having a best test bowling performance in the entire series. But during that match itself he led down his fan’s expectations from him with his poor batting performance. Gradually India witnessed Gavaskar as their new captain. In the year 1987 Kapil Dev again signed as the Indian captain. During that time Indian cricket team had many success. His performance as a captain was commendable and in fact he proved himself to be a better captain than a player. Kapil Dev is known for his right arm pace bowling and a potent out swinger. He devoted most of the time in his career as India’s main strike bowlers. He earned the title of Haryana Hurricanes. Kapil Dev became one of the renowned coaches of the Indian national team in the year 1999. Then he took his profession as a bowling consultant for the Indian team. 


Role as a Motivator:

His main emphasis was on being optimistic in life. He loves to talk to young minds of the nation. He loves the people who maintain originality and clarity in life. The spark of leadership will help an individual to move further in life in the path of success. In one of his interviews he stated that “ Agar manzil khubsoorathaitohrastekifikarkyunkarte ho ?”, which means if the ultimate destination is beautiful then what is the necessity in worrying about the path that you have to go through to reach your destination. 


His thoughts and way of speaking is very much simple and he inspires the entire world. He asks everyone to chase their passion irrespective of any obstacles in life.


Professions Other Than Cricket:

In the year 2008, 24th September Kapil Dev joined Indian Territorial Army and was commissioned as a lieutenant Colonel by General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of the army staff. He joined there as an officer. The place from where he started his journey, he became chancellor of that university in the year 2019, Sports university of Haryana.
