Dinesh Lad advised Rohit to do so, as he was the coach of this school and also believed that it had a lot better cricket equipments and facilities compared to his old school. Rohit recollects in his mind about this incident when he told Dinesh that he couldn't afford it, but then Dinesh Lad, who was impressed by Rohit’s skills, helped him to get a scholarship. And this happened which finally allowed Rohit to play and study there for the next four years without spending a penny from his pocket.

In return, Rohit also performed well in the contest and improved his cricket. Actually Rohit’s career didn’t grow as a batsman in its initial stage but he was seen more as an off-spinner who was considered as a backup batsman, who can be called to play at the end. But observing Rohit’s batting stance, Dinesh Lad started recognising his batting ability and put his believe on him, putting him from number eight to directly going and open the innings. As a result, Rohitjust went amazing in the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket tournament, where he scored a century on his debut match as an opener.

In the month of November 2013, during Sachin Tendulkar's farewell series, Rohitdebuted his first test match at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata against the West Indies.
