Introduction:

Maria Sharapova is one of the famous professional tennis players who come from Russia. At the age of 14, she started her tennis career and she is one of the very few women tennis players who keep her position strongly in the sport despite of suffering many injuries. Additionally, because of her good looks and popularity, she has endorsed enormous brands. Apart from sports, she has an interest in music, reading, and fashion. Moreover, it is a common truth that she has a strong interest in collecting stamps. She has a huge fan following and she is completely active in various social media platforms.

Childhood Life:

On 19th April 1987, Maria Sharapova was born in the Nyagan town of Russia. Her father's name was Yuri and her mother was Yelena. After that, she moved from Russia to the United States of America along with her father in the year of 1994 and then she enrolled at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. However, due to some visa problems, her mother stayed back in Russia and joined them after 2 years.

But, the admission of Maria Sharapova was not granted to Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy because she was too young to take admission to the academy. So, after that, she initially started her training at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy and after that, she signed a deal with the international management group, global sports, and talent organization which is basically New-York based.

Student Life:

She pursues her study from the Keystone national high school in Pennsylvania.

Personal Life:

She dated the famous singer Adam Levine in 2005 and later they broke up.

In the year of 2008, she had a lived relationship with the TV producer Charlie Ebersol

Then she also dated Slovenian basketball player Sasha but the couple ended up in the year 2012.

Working Life:

When she was only 13 years old, she won the Eddie Herr international junior tennis championship in the girls 16 division and along with this; she also won the Rising star award.

In the year of 2001, she started her professional tennis career and made her debut in the year 2002 at Pacific Life Open.

In the same year, she reached the finale of girls single events at the Australia Open and Wimbledon. She was young and this is why there were no restrictions on the number of games she could play.

After that, in the next year, she made her debut performance in Australian open and France open but unfortunately, she lost in both of the tournaments. But, later on, 2013, she was honored with the title of WTA Newcomer of the year.

When she was 17, in the year 2004 she won her first Grand slam singles title at Wimbledon and she won this after defeating Champion Serena Williams. As a result of this winning, she became the top 10 tennis player in the world and she is the second Russian woman to win this title.

In the Australian Open she reached the semi-finals in the year 2005 and in that same year, she also reached the quarterfinals of the French Open. Later on this year, she became the first Russian woman to hold the world no 1 ranking. However, her reign was for a short period because within a week she lost her position to Lindsay Davenport.

In the year of 2006, she won her second Grand Slam singles title of her career after she won in the US Open after defeating Justine Henin. But, she reached for the semi-finals in Australia open and also lost in the fourth round of the French Open. Additionally, she also defeated in the semi-finals by Amelie Mauresmo in Wimbledon.

Then in 2007, she reached in the finals of Australia open and she also reached in the semi-finals of French open. But, due to her physical injury, her ranking fell below to top 5.

After that, when she defeated Ana Ivanovic in the year of 2008 in the finals of Australia open, then she won her third Grand slam title. Later on this year, she became no 1 ranking again. However, she lost her games in Wimbledon and French open and due to her injury, she was unable to play in the second half of the year. After recovering from his shoulder injury, she came back again in the year 2011.

In the year of 2012, she won her first French Open title and later on this same year, she won a silver medal in the London Olympics. Then, again in 2013, she faced some physical problems which affected her performance.

After that, in the year of 2014, she won the French opening for the second time in her career. Along with this, she also won the Stuttgart Open, Madrid Open, and china open on that same year. As a result of this, at the end of the year, her ranking rose from 4 to 2.

Then in the year of 2015, she won the Italian Open and reached the finals of the Australian Open. But, due to physical health, she was unable to take part in the US Open.

She has been the brand ambassador of many leading brands such as Landrover, Canon, and Tropicana and so on.

Achievements:

  • In her entire career, she won a total of 5 Grand Slam titles. One for Wimbledon, the US and Australia open and she won two for French open and along with this, she also won 35 singles titles.
  • She was appointed as united national Goodwill Ambassador for the UNDP specifically for the Chernobyl recovery projects in 2007.
  • She was the first torchbearer in the lighting ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Russia in the year of 2014.

Along with playing tennis, her love for fashion is recommendable and for this, she was once offered a cameo role in the leading TV show Desperate Housewives. But, later she launched her own apparel called “Nike Maria Sharapova collection”. She is a strong woman and her life story inspires many women out there.
